Navigating Dating with Ease: 4 Tips for Soothing Anxiety
Do you wish you could get excited about dating but find yourself battling pesky anxiety butterflies in your stomach?
These 4 things have helped my clients immensely with dating anxiety.
Which one will you take on TODAY?
1. Get Clear on Your Criteria:
Do you know what you want–practically, emotionally and in terms of chemistry?
You have to be able to clearly articulate it to yourself, your friends and your potential partners! What are your deal-breakers? It might not be what you think.
Making these lists will keep you focused and honest with yourself! BTW: When you stay true to yourself you can relax more, and you can attract a better caliber person.
REMEMBER: you can't MESS IT UP with THE ONE!
2. Ask Engaging Questions:
Shift your focus on "are you good enough" to curiosity and connection. Prepare (and memorize!) a list of engaging questions that allow you to discover your date's dreams, and experiences.
Experience is everything. Just like a dress rehearsal before a show, practice your questions in the mirror, with your pet and with your friends.
Then when you’re with your date, you’ll be calm enough to be genuinely curious and you'll naturally steer the conversation away from anxious thoughts and towards mutual connection.
3. Choose Serene Settings:
When it comes to date locations, opt for calm and quiet environments, conducive to making a connection, and possibly making out.
Think cozy coffee shops, serene parks, or perhaps a peaceful walk along the beach. You are trying to create an atmosphere where both you and your date can relax and be yourselves.
4. Plan to Tell the Truth:
A lot of anxiety is created by having to manage hiding information and the fear it might come out! You don’t have to tell your deepest darkest secrets on the first date but don’t plan to hide anything either.
If there is something about yourself or your past about which you can’t seem to get comfortable, please seek the professional help of a coach or therapist to either change that thing or come to acceptance about it.
You deserve to love yourself fully and be loved fully. Relax in knowing that.
